Did you ever take a look at your fingernails from a distance? We want our nails to look neat and shiny, but are we also doing all we can to make sure they stay healthy? These are the ten most common mistakes people make when trying to have beautiful, healthy nails.

1. Poor dietary habits
First, make sure that your nails develop properly. Fingernails contain keratin, which is a type of protein. This component is also found in your hair and skin’s top layer. You should eat leafy green vegetables if you want to maintain your hair, nails, skin, and scalp in great shape. Essential minerals include calcium and magnesium. To stay hydrated, you should drink lots of water throughout the day.
2. Gnawing at your nails
This was a fact that your mum was absolutely right about. Your health is at risk from biting your fingernails. Not only will you get all sorts of bacteria and other debris in the mouth, but repetitive tearing can also cause damage to your nail structure. You can make an effort to stop this behaviour by wearing false nails or painting your nails with a bad-tasting topcoat to keep them from getting into your teeth.
3. Picking your nail polish
You may think that removing polish by hand is acceptable nerve behaviour. You would be wrong. Picking at your nail polish will remove the top layer, and repeating this process will remove additional layers. Your nails will be weaker once again. Use a polish remover instead. You can also use polish removal wipes if you are in a hurry.
4. Cut your cuticles
Even though it might seem that you don’t need cuticles, cutting them isn’t the best option. Cuticle oil is a good choice to nourish your nail bed. Instead of cutting your nails, gently push them back. This will make your nails look longer and healthier. You could end up causing yourself an injury if you don’t apply the oil. You wouldn’t place a stick under a nail. Don’t add one to it.
5. Applying a base coat is not necessary
You’re going to do your nails yourself? Now it’s time for you to take care of your nails. Before applying polish, you need to first apply a base coat. This will protect your nails against the more harsh polishes and allow you to easily remove them without damaging them.
6. Regularly getting acrylic or gel nails
You might be tempted to paint your nails with gel or acrylic. They look great, but wearing them alone is not a good idea. This is because your nails, just like your skin, need oxygen to survive. To allow the gel or acrylic to stick, technicians need to remove the top layer. This will cause your nails to become thin and fragile. You can remove the polish by soaking your nails in acetone. These should not be worn every day, but only on rare occasions.
7. Not wearing gloves while doing dishes
Although it may sound odd, this is true. Water is essential for life, but it can also cause your skin to grow. Too much water on your hands can cause wrinkles and even lead to nail buckling under the swelling skin. It doesn’t mean you shouldn’t wash them, but it does mean you need to keep your hands clean. Rubber gloves are a good choice for cleaning your hands after doing dishes or other tasks. Rubber gloves will protect you from poisonous chemicals in cleaning products. It is bad to drink too much water.
8. Make tools from your nails
If you have ever used your nail for opening a can of soda, then you know exactly what we are talking about. The nail is there to support the finger and not perform all tasks. If you have ever used your fingernail to drive a screwdriver in an emergency situation, it is best to stop. While you won’t break the nail, you will still need a screwdriver. You shouldn’t use your fingernails, but don’t let them become your toolbox.
9. You’re not reading the label on nail polish.
The three main ingredients in nail paint are not good. First, formaldehyde is an embalming preservative. Toluene, which helps to keep the nails smooth, has been linked to headaches and dizziness. The third is DBP (or dibutyl phthalate), which is used to prevent cracking and chipping. However, it has been linked to fertility problems. It is banned in Europe. Many major brands are phasing out these chemicals from their products. It is important to read labels.
10. Regularly change your nail polish
No matter how tempting it might seem, we don’t recommend changing your nail polish colour on a regular basis. Even if you use the most gentle polish, the polish is not the problem. The problem is the nail paint remover. Acetone is a strong solvent that removes moisture from nails. Your efforts to nurture your nails will go stale if they are dry. Dry nails
